 Welcome to Sarah's Purple Martins & Bluebird Trail. My site is located in Far North/East Illinois about one mile from the Wisconsin border. This is my 6th season as a Purple Martin landlord and Bluebird trail owner. I was fortunate to host Purple Martins, Eastern Bluebirds & Tree Swallows my first year! Over the past five years my Purple Martin colony has grown to 44 pairs, fledging 204 young this past 2007 season. I am currently offering 32 house compartments and 30 gourds, for a total of 62 cavities. The Bluebird trail currently consists of 21 cavities, which are a mixture of wood boxes, plastic gourds and Slippin' Silos.
Please make yourselves at home! I update my site regularly, so check back in for updates. Rather than copy information on some topics, I have many links to informational sites already out there. My site is more of a 'personal log' of my own experiences and thoughts. I am always learning something new and exciting with this hobby. I hope you come away from here with a better understanding of these majestic song birds and hopefully a sparked interest to pursue your OWN birding environment.
